We are a 'Take Care' school

Vision and Aims

Sir John Sherbrooke Junior School

Striving to be the best we can be

Vision and Aims

Our Ethos

Sir John Sherbrooke Junior School is a ‘Take Care’ school. We provide a wide range of opportunities through our curriculum and enrichment activities to enable the profound personal development of every child so that they can achieve ‘Beyond Expectations’.

We have exceptionally high expectations of ourselves and of the children and we constantly strive to be the very best that we can be in all that we do. We promote our ‘Take Care Values’ at every opportunity and celebrate when we see these being actively demonstrated. This is a meaningful and active value system (which significantly also attaches itself to the way we work – i.e. ‘Take Care work’) that is particularly defined so that children as well as adults can both adopt it and be positively affected by it during their time at Sir John Sherbrooke.  It also allows us to use this clear and accessible ethos statement as a hook from which to attach and make meaningful other values (e.g. respect, responsibility, resilience, perseverance, teamwork, focus and compassion).

Our Vision

We believe that all children have the potential to achieve ‘Beyond Expectations’ and endeavour to provide a curriculum and enrichment opportunities bespoke to the needs of the children and the community which we serve. Through our provision we aim to equip each child with the skills they need to be academically successful and to prepare them for life beyond school. We aim to develop confident, resilient learners, who take care of themselves, their learning, of each other and of their environment. We encourage children to develop a sense of pride in their own achievements and of those of their peers and the school.

We firmly believe that it is a core part of our work to enable the profound personal development of all children through enhanced provision which takes into account the full spectrum of needs. Through positive attitudes and partnerships, we endeavour to develop the whole child, meeting individual needs in a safe and secure environment.

We believe that all members of our school community should work together to maintain a safe, organised and stimulating environment which encompasses not only the learning environment and school grounds, but also the surrounding area.

This also includes a commitment to explore ways this clear ethos and high expectation can act as an integrating force for good, linking our children’s educational and overall life journey consistently and persistently from Juniors right through to their secondary experience.
