• Rangoli Patterns

  Several children used their knowledge of rangoli patterns to create a collage for a year 6 display. They used flour, rice, grains and lentils as well as coloured pastels. Later they decorated part of the front playground using coloured chalks! This artwork was influenced by both rangoli patterns and the artist Kandinsky whose work they have previously studied.

  Rangoli is a folk art from India in which patterns are created using materials such as coloured rice, flour, coloured sand or flower petals. It is usually made during Diwali and other Indian festivals. The purpose of rangoli is decoration and it is thought to bring good luck. Rangoli designs can be simple geometric shapes, deity impressions or flower and petal shapes.
