• Christingle service at St Wilfrid's Church

  Pupils shared in a collective worship and festive sing-a-long at St Wilfrid's Church in Calverton this month.

  The whole school attended this inclusive event which supported the students' R.E. work. It was a chance to deliver food, kindly collected by Pupil Parliament, for the food bank.

  A big thanks to Rev. Sam Hustwayte for leading the service.

• Mental Health Awareness Day!

  Pupils have had an amazing day learning about mental health and wellbeing.  Over £200 has been raised so far and donations are still coming in!  Well done everyone!  We are so proud of you all!

• Reading progress success

  More children than we ever had before, earned reading certificates in this week's reading assembly!

  Well done children and grown-ups for encouraging such fabulous reading.

  Remember gold certificate readers get a free book from the school vending machine.

  Platinum certificate readers will be invited to a special afternoon tea with Mrs Sansom this half term.

  

• Reading open afternoon

  Thank you to all the parents who came along for our open afternoon reading event.  Parents and pupils together designed class reading pets. 

  Pupil Parliament have now chosen the winners and pets will now be created so that each class will have their own creative creation to read to!

  Every pupil had the chance to deliver a campaign speech about why they would make a good MP for their class.  We learned all about our British Values and the importance of democracy.

• Parent book swap now open

  Parent book swap in reception is now open.

   

  Please feel free to take a book and we welcome donations to fill the stand!

   

  Children who see their parents as readers are more likely to become readers.

  

• Readathon Success!

  Thank you to all the parents who supported our school Readathon!  We raised over £500 to be spent on childrens' libraries in hospitals.

  The reading leaders also deserve a big 'thank you' for running and promoting the event.

  

• Science egg drop drama

  To help raise the profile of STEM subjects at SJS, we ran a science competition in which the children worked in groups to create a cradle that can safely protect an egg when dropped from a great height! Every child took part and we were amazed at the level of creativity and teamwork the children showed.
