What an evening! The basketball team played so well despite the tough competition! They really held their own out there and gave the other teams a run for their money! All their skills really came in to play and they worked brilliantly as a team! Great job guys!!

Huge thank you to Leah and Ewan's parents for working so hard generating sponorships for the fantastic kit! Thank you to all the local businesses for their generosity - it is very much appreciated!!

  • Kit Crisis...

    Thu 04 Dec 2014

A few weeks ago we attended a basket ball meeting and competed really well. We were well supported too but there was just one problem.....we looked a bit 'thrown' together. Check out the article to see what happened next!

A couple of charismatic mums took on our plight to ensure we looked the business at our next tournament which happens this Friday. They nagged, pleaded and persuaded donations to buy an entire set of basket ball tops for the school. We think they look pretty cool and they will certainly give us a boost when we model them on Friday. Thank you so much to those parents who worked so hard on the team's behalf. You are total stars!

  • The School Council's latest venture

    Fri 21 Nov 2014
The recent school council project was to design a flag which represented our school and our community. Here you can see the design making in process and the finished article. Below is a description of our inspiration behind the completed design:

Our design was inspired by our community. The fourteen children making up Sir John Sherbrooke's School Council came up with the idea with the help of the whole school, who designed individual flags. The coal on the flag represents our coal mining community and, as it is the cornerstone of Calverton, the children decided to place the coal in the corners. They chose the colours white and reflex as they are our school colours and placed the logo of the school in the heart of the flag as it is the heart of our community (Calverton). They chose to place the logo within a hot air balloon as Sir John Sherbrooke’s motto is ‘the sky’s the limit’.

Huge thank you to my parent helper (Sarah and Alfie Casey's mum), who gave her afternoon to work with the school council :-)

Year 5 were lucky enough to experience an afternoon with a talented artist, John Suggett, as part of their topic work on mining. John showed the children, with water colours, how to create a horizon, buildings, people and a foreground. The children produced some excellent work, which will be showcased in their classroom and school.
